Principles to Know Before You Build Your Own Hovercraft at Home

The hovercraft is probably one of the brilliant inventions of all time. It’s a product of ingenuity. This machine worked using the principles of applied physics and engineering. What’s more interesting is you can build your own hovercraft all by yourself. That is correct. You can do it in your home.

A hovercraft is a vehicle lifted by air cushion. To make this happen, there is a certain amount of pressure to be made. Science will tell you that air is a form of fluid. Its molecules behave unpredictably. When you build your own hovercraft, it’s good to understand the control of air flow underneath it. These are the basic principles:

Air Pressure – The mechanics of a hovercraft involves mainly of air of course. You need to pressurize that air and send it to the right channel to create the cushion below. To do that, you need to get an abundant supply of its molecules. The solution is a fan. Any device that produces air pressure such as a vacuum cleaner will do too.

The Plane – Next thing to have is a board or ply wood. This is for you to sit on. Another purpose for the board is the help distribute air beneath it surface. With the right velocity, air should be able to create a film or layer below. When that happens, pressure is building up. To build your own hovercraft, you have to increase that pressure.

The Velocity – In fluid mechanics, velocity of fluid increases when an orifice opening is decreased. This is evident in how a fire hose works. This concept is also applied in your homemade hovercraft. You have to simulate the pressure increase by limiting the passage of air flow and channel it through a hole in the ply wood.

The Skirt – When the flow of air is now controlled, it can build a strong layer of air beneath the ply wood. This thin layer of air bearing should also be regulated. A heavy plastic sheet is wrapped around the perimeter of the board. This is called the skirt. This helps in building the air cushion below. It traps the air and only allows a little amount released below it. If you build your own hovercraft, t is important that this concept is understood.

Initial Thrust – Now you got the board lifted, it’s time to get your ply wood to move forward. To do this, you need thrust. However, it could also be fun to just have someone push you while you’re sitting on the board. Or you may have a rope tied to the front and have someone tag you around. Can you imagine that? Since this is a homemade hovercraft, might as well improvise with fun creatively as well.

Your improvised hovercraft should be as exciting as it is when it’s done. Your friends will surely like it. You can use it for your science project in school. You’ll be the envy of every kid in school. They’d think you have the mind of a scientist. Well, you do. And all it took is to know some principles of physics. So what are you waiting for? Build your own hovercraft now.

Everyday, new ways of involving customers in businesses are emerging, evolving, and gaining wider acceptance. Customer satisfaction is high in these do-it-yourself experiences because customers save time, have more control, and achieve self-made results. In Creating Do-It-Yourself Customers: How Great Customer Experiences Build Great Companies, veteran business consultants Peter C. Honebein and Roy F. Cammarano show anyone who serves customers, from CEOs to frontline associates, how to lead the creation of truly outstanding customer experiences. This book justly emphasizes that for customers to perform, businesses must wrap their goods and services with performance-enhancing experiences. Customers need vision so they know what they are expected to do. They need access to tools that enable them to perform. They need incentives to motivate desired performances. And they need expertise so they can perform tasks competently. The authors call the orchestration of these four strategies a coproduction experience, and it forms the foundation for how businesses create do-it-yourself customers. Through the principles of customer codesign, cocreation, and coproduction, business owners, leaders, and employees can champion the ideals of great experiences for customers and become leaders in the do-it-yourself economy. The results are clear: greater customer satisfaction, trust, loyalty, and lifetime value-the cornerstones of a great company.

UT in the woods stood a nice little Fir-tree. The place he had was a very good one: the sun shone on him ; as to fresh air, there was enough of that, and round him grew many large-sized comrades, pines as well as firs. But the little Fir wanted so very much to be a grown-up tree. He did not think of the warm sun and of the fresh air ; he did not care for the little cot- tage-chil d r e n that ran about THE FIR-TREES WISH. in and prattled when they were in the woods looking for wild strawberries. The children often came with a whole pitcherful of berries, or a long row of them threaded on a straw, and sat down near the young tree and said, ‘ Oh, how pretty he is ! what a nice little fir!’ But this was what the tree could not bear to hear. At the end of a year he had shot up a good deal, and after another year he was another long bit taller ; for with fir-trees one can always tell by the shoots how many years old they are. ‘ Oh ! were I but such a high tree as the others are,’ sighed he. ‘ Then I should be able to spread out my branches, and with the tops to look into the wide world ! Then would the birds build nests among my branches ; and when there was a breeze, I could bend with as much stateliness as the others !’ Neither the sunbeams, nor the birds, nor the red clouds which morning and evening sailed above him gave the little tree any pleasure. In winter, when the snow lay glittering on the ground, a hare would often come leaping along, and jump right over the little tree. Oh, that made him so angry! But two winters were past, and in the third the tree was

Here I lie my heart enchanted; Yet question why the needs of man Bar the aims of those God granted Souls to aspire His ways to plan. All our strivings through the ages Since first Lord Jesus loved and taught, Still finds us delving for mere wages, In economic prisons caught. Grass and trees and murmuring streams And airs washed golden by the sun, Are now but stuff for poets’ dreams, To labor lost, and rarely won. Yet gold of sun and song of brook Have magic gifts our days to dower, Which never gods from anvils struck, And ever wait our spirits’ hour. “ANY VINDERS TO MEND?” THE street-criers of cities are rarely heard now, even in London, where the airs of the various seasons were once musical with their calls. “Trade’s unfeeling train” has usurped the land and dispossessed these picturesque swains of their ancient rights and privileges, and the warblers have long since migrated to where blow kinder airs. I suppose the modern newspaper, with its tradesmen’s advertisements, is a better guide and helper than was the itinerant cobbler or the traveling tinker; yet I cannot help feeling a regret that these peripatetic peddlers no longer play their part in the dramas of life. I recall these acquaintances of my boyhood as I sit listening to the bells that are chiming in the new year, because it was on the eve of a new year that I first met one of these criers of the streets whose beneficent influence on my life is still an abiding forc…

Each in its order perfect, rose and bee, Perfect the bird to know the season’s change, But man is born to work his upward way To God by seeking the eternal things. But what’s our sojourn worth, if life be shrunk To limit of the things that pass away,— Unless we grow, as seed outgrows the earth And enters realm of sun and balmy air ? So may we enter the eternal realm, Not creatures of the tide that die at ebb Of years, but who imperishably dwell In Truth and Love, enshrining life of God. BEAR THINE OWN FRUIT Once a peach tree gazed despondent At the sky-aspiring pine, Languid grew with useless wishing, “Would such towering strength were mine !’ The pine exulted in the sunshine, Tossed glad tassels to the wind ; But the peach tree found no gladness, Drooped with longing, and repined. In the Autumn when the vinters Gathered fruitage of the vine, Still the unhappy peach was wishing, “Would such clustered fruit were mine !” And the sunlight brought no gladness, Only discontent and pain, Since the power that others joyed in Spite his wish he could not gain. In the garden walked the Master ; “Why thus drooping tree of mine ? Though ambitious for the hill-top Thou art here by my design. Now I prune thy useless branches, Lack of power no more bemoan, Everyfruit thou canst not yield me, Be content to bear thine own !” Spring returned, and now life glowing Blossomed out in rosy fire, All through summertide he waited Happy in his one desire ; Till the glad sunlight was prisoned, …
